All is Well

Some people have reached out and expressed concern about our well-being here in Colombia (thank you for caring!), given the current US situation with neighboring Venezuela. Honestly, it’s business as usual around these parts. We are about 800 miles from the border right now, and the closest we’ll get to Venezuela on this trip is about 650 miles away. The only thing we noticed that was different today were some guys wearing Venezuelan flags and blowing horns on a street called Avenida Venezuela just on the edge of town. They seemed to be in a celebratory mood. Also, there were a couple of people walking around town wearing shirts with Venezuelan flags or with flags around them as capes. You can see one in the picture here if you look on the right-hand side.

This morning, after a breakfast of bacon, eggs, and toast in our apartment, Zack and I did some planning for homeschooling, which we will start up next week with the kids. Later, we cooked up some spaghetti and salad, which turned out pretty good considering we don’t have all the kitchen comforts of home. I walked around the Getsemani area afterward, enjoying the monkeys in Parque Centenario and all the artwork on display in the streets. We all spent our evening hanging out at Plaza de la Trinidad, eating street food and watching various street performers. So, no danger here that we can see. Mom, you can sleep in peace now!
