Island Living

We’ve spent the last four days on Isla Grande, one of the Rosario Islands in the Caribbean Sea off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia. Our days have been spent having school, swimming in the pool and sea, drinking limonada de coco (coconut lemonade), reading in hammocks, observing various animals (crabs, stray dogs, and an iguana), playing cards while waiting for meals, and watching sunsets.

On Thursday, we took a private boat tour of the islands with a few snorkeling stops. We saw a sunken airplane, Pablo Escobar’s abandoned mansion, hundreds of fish, a snake eel, a bird sanctuary, and beautiful coral. We stopped at a beach where Jonas found tons of conch shells underwater at the end of the pier.

The temperature has been near 90 degrees every day, so it’s strange to think that there is snow back at home. It’s been a relaxing few days, but we are ready for the next leg of our adventure!
